Summary

As part of the agreement of cooperation signed in 2020 between The Regional Center for Remote Sensing of North African Countries (CRTEAN) and UN-Habitat, the first training session on Fit For Purpose Land Administration hands-on knowledge about tools and techniques for mapping and information managements. The training was held for (3) three days, from 31 January to 02 February 2022, at the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS) Cairo -Egypt.

The three days training was attended in person and online by GIS experts, and land experts from 10 Arab countries (Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan, Yemen, Lebanon, Algeria, Libya, Sudan, Palestine, Morocco). The training was an opportunity for the attendees to develop their knowledge on the Fit For Purpose approach, methodology and tools. The different training sessions was led by Ombretta Tempra, Ghaleb Faour and Wala Abdelmuati, who have enriches the training with interactive discussions, simulations, group work  and case study that showcased the implementation of the different tools (e.g KoBoCollect, map production tool and STDM) on the field.

The training has been enriched with  active participation of the trainees who have contributed throughout the 3 days via a group work, where they have elaborated what they have learned through conceptualising the Fit For Purpose approach and the tools leaned in the context of their countries and in their areas of expertise.
