Summary

On 8-9 November 2021 the Center for Land and Environmental Governance ISTIDAMA and the Arab Union of Surveyors AUS, supported by UN-Habitat/GLTN, held the Knowledge Exchange event on the Role and Capacity of Land Professionals in Arab States, in Cairo, Egypt.

 

As per the Agreement of Cooperation with the Arab Land Initiative, the two-day event has been organized to provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences, identify land professionals, their role in the region and define their key challenges. The event has been an opportunity to bring together land professionals from different backgrounds, including Surveyors, Town Planners, notaries, the academia, the civil society and government representatives, etc and to assess the capacity development needs of the land professionals in the Arab region.

During the event, various specialized points of discussion have been opened. There have been rich discussions on Types of formal and non-formal professionals who are working in the land field, Land Functions which already exist and other functions that are needed, Main challenges and Key areas of Knowledge, skills, and experience (Capacities) needed for the practitioners as well as for the organizations. The event ended up with Fruitful conclusions and initial recommendations for further work to be done.
